Kayaking Horton Pond

I am continuing to focus on water this year, hoping to gain confidence in this area. Here is a photo from our kayaking trip in May. I completed the painting in June 2024, and it was quite a challenge.

I’m quite happy with this painting. If I did it again, I would lighten the clouds a bit. However, I am pleased with the appearance of the forest in the background. I used a stretched canvas and Golden Heavy Body acrylic paint for this piece. ‘Kayaking Horton Pond,’ an original acrylic painting by DVD © 2024

Gold Beach OR King Tides

Here is a second painting from our trip to Southern Oregon in May. This piece was inspired by our time at Gold Beach, Oregon, where we arrived during the King Tides. King tides occur when the moon is closest to the Earth, the Earth is closest to the sun, and the sun, moon, and Earth are in direct alignment. This alignment increases their gravitational influence on the tides.

I used an 8 by 10 inch stretched canvas and Golden Heavy Body acrylic paint for this piece. ‘Gold Beach Oregon; King Tides,’ an original acrylic painting by DVD © 2024.

Sara at Crescent City Beach

We took a mini vacation to the Southern Oregon and Northern California coasts. I was captivated watching my granddaughter, Sara, gaze at the ocean and birds while we enjoyed the beach in Crescent City, California. I could feel her sense of wonder, just like mine, in the presence of this magnificent natural wonder. Fun fact; This is my first painting with a full person in it.

I used a 3 by 5 inch canvas board and Golden Heavy Body acrylic paint for this piece. ‘Sara at Crescent City Beach,’ an original acrylic painting by DVD © 2024.

Bridge at Sisters Oregon

In May, we took a quick trip to Sisters, Oregon, with our newest family member, Trex, the conversion van. While sitting at our campsite, I decided to bring out my paints and create. This is my interpretation of the bridge over the small creek at our camp. I find depicting water quite challenging, but I was pleased with how it turned out. I couldn’t resist including our new cargo van conversion in the painting as well. Additionally, I posted a couple of photos of camp and our van.

I used a 3 by 3 inch stretched canvas and Golden Heavy Body acrylic paint for this piece. ‘Bridge in Sisters’ is an original acrylic painting by DVD © 2024.

McKenzie River OR at Belknap

The McKenzie River in Oregon is truly stunning. This is my attempt to capture some of its beauty. I took this photo at Belknap Hot Springs, where the McKenzie River flows right next to the campground and hot springs. We recently bought a Ford Transit Van for our travels and camping adventures. Below, you can see our van superimposed onto my painting. Many exciting trips await us!
